On Monday June 20, 2022, the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS) and the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA) held the second round of strategy building workshops for the charitable and humanitarian sector in Qatar. These workshops have convened representatives from various institutions and associations working in the Qatari charitable and humanitarian sector, representatives from government agencies, international experts, and members of the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies. The workshops aim to collaboratively build a strategy for the Qatari charitable and humanitarian sector that will be incorporated into the State of Qatar's third National Development Strategy in January 2023. The four-day workshop is being held from 20 to 23 June 2022 at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies.
In addition to the discussions of the workshop series, the charitable and humanitarian sector strategy draft is based on results from a comprehensive SWOT analysis (analyzing the strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and opportunities for the sector) and a PESTEL analysis (analyzing the political, economic, social, technological, environmental, and legal environment of the sector). During the first day of workshops, the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities announced that an initial draft of the sector strategy was completed. Hence, these interactive workshops serve as another important source of supporting, developing, and providing an appropriate environment for Qatari charitable and humanitarian work.
The first day of the workshop began with a comprehensive presentation on the "Lifecyle of Results-based Strategic Planning", a widely applied strategy-building methodology in many states around the world. According to this methodology, participants have actively engaged in extensive discussions about the charitable and humanitarian sector's vision, value system, its single major outcome, and its intermediate outcomes for the next five years. During the second day of the workshop, participants consolidated the results of the previous day and moved into more focused discussions on developing specific targets to achieving the sector's intermediate outcomes.
This workshop series will continue until Thursday, June 23, 2022, by which date it will have completed the charitable and humanitarian sector strategy draft in line with international standards in the field, the Qatar National Vision 2030, and the Qatar National Development Strategy. This draft will then be presented to the leadership cadres within the charitable and humanitarian sector in the State of Qatar for approval and implementation.
