In conflicts with transformative effects on the world stage, actors involved in mediation are met with a series of questions on how to respond to conflicts and whether they should alter the way they respond. Do the old methods still work? Are there any new instruments that could have a better outcome? Is there a relationship between old and new methods – if so, how do they relate to one another?
A roundtable with H.E. Ramon Blecua, Spain's Ambassador at Large for Mediation and Intercultural Dialogue, and H.E., Dr Mutlaq al Qahtani, Special Envoy of the Foreign Minister of the State of Qatar for Counterterrorism and Mediation, addressed the above questions by focusing on the concept of hybrid mediation and the need for new conflict resolution instruments. The roundtable was organized by the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS) and was moderated by Professor Sultan Barakat, CHS Director.
It took place at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies on Wednesday 24 March 2021 at 1600 with the first part of the roundtable streamed online @onlineCHS. The second half entailed a private discussion amongst the speakers and the diplomatic community in Qatar.
