H.E., Dr Mutlaq bin Majed al-Qahtani, Special Envoy of the Foreign Minister of the State of Qatar for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution, delivered a lecture on Qatar's policy and experience in mediation and conflict resolution and the relationship between combatting terrorism and mediation. The lecture took place at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) on Monday, January 11 at 18:00 and was moderated by Dr Hend Abdulrahman Al Muftah, Vice President of Administration and Finance at DI.
H.E., Dr al-Qahtani underlined Qatar's commitment to an effective and balanced foreign policy and the maintenance of its diplomatic role to resolve disputes to reach peaceful and durable solutions. To illustrate, he affirmed that "Qatar's foreign policy has always been one of preserving sovereignty and independence and non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign countries".
In playing this role, Qatar has gained international standing as an impactful small state mediator in international and regional crises, balancing its position in this competitive field by maintaining open lines of communication with all parties as well as strengthening strategic alliances and partnerships with other mediators.
