The Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS) is pleased to announce the award of a three-year research project from the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), entitled "Re-thinking the 'Day After': Post-war Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip." Led by Dr. Ghassan Elkahlout, Director of CHS, alongside Principal Investigators Dr. Sansom Milton, Senior Research Fellow at CHS, in partnership with the Islamic University of Gaza. This project aims to produce timely and relevant insights on the aftermath of the 2023-2024 Israeli war on Gaza, focusing on how best to rebuild and support the territory in the "Day After".

By employing an innovative, comparative, and participatory approach, the team will undertake a comprehensive assessment of the conflict's impact and draw lessons from other post-conflict regions to fill key knowledge gaps. Crucially, the study will also spotlight marginalised Palestinian and Arab perspectives in shaping policies for Gaza's holistic and wide-ranging reconstruction. Building on years of previous CHS research in the region, the project's fresh insights will be disseminated through multi-faceted academic and policy engagement, contributing to the global conversation on sustainable post-conflict recovery and peacebuilding.

This award is under Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council, which was established to develop a national strategy that would optimize RDI activities and help realize the country's overarching goals and ambitions. The Council brings together prominent national and international figures from across government, industry and academia and draws on the wealth of knowledge and expertise of individuals from varied disciplines.
