The Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies is organising a high-level expert workshop entitled “From Barriers to Change: Reimagining Humanitarianism Beyond Siege," in Doha on 14-15 October 2026.
The workshop will bring together scholars, policymakers, and practitioners for two days of focused discussion on how humanitarian action can respond more effectively to the growing constraints on access, protection, and principled engagement in contemporary conflicts.
Drawing on experiences from Gaza, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen, the workshop will examine emerging approaches to humanitarian response, including mutual aid, Southern-led cooperation, and community-based initiatives, alongside broader questions of accountability, protection, and humanitarian governance. A central objective will be to move beyond diagnosis towards a practical agenda for reform. The discussions will contribute to the development of a collective framework of recommendations, the Doha Agenda for Humanitarianism Beyond Siege.
The workshop forms part of CHS's newly established research track, the Beyond Borders, Beyond Crisis Initiative, which seeks to generate evidence-based analysis and actionable recommendations that bridge research, policy, and practice and contribute to improved humanitarian outcomes in conflict-affected settings.
