As part of its academic engagement with international institutions, the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS) participated in an online guest lecture at Princeton University, where its Director, Dr. Ghassan Elkahlout, shared his expertise on foreign aid and the role of regional actors in responding to contemporary crises. Held on 29 October 2026, the lecture was delivered as part of the course Foreign Aid in the Middle East, taught by Dr. Altea Pericoli during the Fall 2026 semester.
The lecture examines development and humanitarian assistance provided by regional donors across the Middle East, with particular emphasis on the role of Gulf states in responding to contemporary crises. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, it draws on history, anthropology, and international relations to explore the political, social, and institutional dimensions of foreign aid.
During the lecture, Dr. Elkahlout shared insights into the evolving role of regional actors in international assistance, drawing on his academic expertise and the Center's research on conflict, humanitarian action, and international development.
The lecture offered students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of regional aid dynamics and develop critical perspectives on the strengths, limitations, and complexities of the international aid system in addressing contemporary crises.
