The concept of humanitarian space refers to “an operational environment that allows humanitarian actors to deliver humanitarian aid according to humanitarian principles, and in line with international humanitarian law.” 

This analysis paper presents a background to the current crisis in Sudan, as well as the challenges that face the country, which strongly contribute to the shrinking of humanitarian space. It then explores the dangers of the politicisation of humanitarian action and its repercussions. 

Ultimately, and based on the outcomes of the recently held workshop hosted by the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS) in Doha on the Recent Developments in Sudan with representatives from UN and Qatari humanitarian agencies, the paper presents a set of necessary steps that may contribute to the preventing the further decline of the humanitarian space in Sudan.
