The Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS), in collaboration with the Diplomatic Institute from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the State of Qatar (MOFA), Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the Centre of Competence on Humanitarian Negotiation (CCHN), conducted a three-day workshop in Mediation and Conflict. The workshop commenced on 9 July 2024 and was held at the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS). It aimed to equip Qatari diplomats with practical knowledge and skills for effective mediation and conflict resolution in humanitarian contexts.

The workshop featured expert-led sessions and interactive discussions, providing diplomats with insights into various critical aspects of conflict and mediation. The sessions covered International Humanitarian Law (IHL), focusing on its principles and application, as well as international crimes and the role of international courts. Participants explored the establishment and evolution of international courts, their jurisdictions, and the concept of universal jurisdiction.

Humanitarian diplomacy was another key area of focus covered during the workshop sessions. Qatari diplomats explored its definition and scope, along with the tools and tactics for effective diplomatic engagement. The workshop also emphasised negotiation techniques and approaches to in-depth conflict analysis. The participants engaged in examining negotiation and mediation tools, as well as multiple strategies and techniques for peacebuilding.

The workshop was attended by 25 diplomats from various institutions in Qatar. Their active participation and engagement in the comprehensive sessions significantly contributed to enhancing their capacity in mediation and conflict resolution.
