The Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies is organizing a webinar on “The Humanitarian Crisis in Lebanon: In the context of the Israeli war on Lebanon and the wider US-Israeli war on Iran" on Tuesday, 31st March 2026, starting from 12:00 PM (Doha Time) via Zoom.

Panelists:

  • Georges Kettaneh – Secretary General of the Lebanese Red Cross

  • Hossam Elsharkawi – MENA Regional Director at the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies

  • Wafaa Fakhry – Member at Council of the Municipality of Beirut

  • Myra Saade, Manager & Senior Legal Expert for the Middle East at IHL Centre

Backgound:

Since 2 March 2026 — as a direct consequence of the US-Israeli strikes on Iran – Israel has launched a sweeping military offensive on Lebanon, killing over 1,072 people, wounding nearly 3,000, and displacing close to one million (20% of the population). Ground forces have established a so-called "security zone" south of the Litani River, trapping civilians and severing humanitarian corridors; bridges, hospitals, and infrastructure have been systematically targeted. The international community has produced no protective response, and accountability for documented IHL violations is wholly absent.

Objectives:

  1. Policy and Accountability – Gaps in the international response and IHL violations

  2. Analytical Framing – Lebanon within the wider Iran war and regional order

  3. Public Awareness – Amplifying civilian voices

  4. Documentation and Data – Latest evidence on casualties, displacement, and infrastructure destruction
