The Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS), in partnership with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), is organising a closed, invite-only workshop titled “Crisis Response to Health System Recovery: Leveraging Syrian Diaspora Expertise for Health Sector Reconstruction." The workshop will be held in person on Monday, 14 September 2026, in Doha, Qatar.

The workshop comes at a time of significant transition for Syria's health sector, as it moves from emergency humanitarian response towards sustainable recovery and the rebuilding of health institutions. It aims to discuss priorities for the recovery of Syria's health system, explore practical ways to leverage the expertise and capacities of Syrians abroad, and strengthen their contribution to the development and sustainability of the health sector.

It will bring together Syrian health professionals, policymakers, Syrian experts and academics based abroad, as well as representatives of health and humanitarian organisations, international institutions, donors, and development partners. Discussions will address several key areas, including strengthening essential health services, governance and institutional coordination, workforce development and medical education, as well as opportunities to build partnerships and enhance cooperation among relevant stakeholders.
