Biography

​Dr. Bakry Elmedni has rich and diversified experiences ranging from program design and evaluation, policy and planning, civil society and nonprofit management, to community development. Previously, he worked in international development in the Middle East and East Africa. Working with global and local NGOs, Dr. Elmedni has gained first-hand experience in areas pertaining to economic growth, conflict resolution, organizational development, public management, and public policies. These experiences equipped Dr. Elmedni with a sophisticated understanding of the government's role in a globalized world during economic challenges and fiscal difficulties. Dr. Elmedni's research interests include the role of civil society in governance, mainly the role of social networks in changing public decision-making modes, the democratization of leadership in civic initiatives, nonprofits' strategies to cope with financial austerity, and social justice in the increasingly globalized society.
