War in Syria has been raging since 2011 with various actors and players contributing to the intensification of the war. This led the international community to call for a political settlement with the participation of many political actors and groups on several occasions throughout the conflict. These calls for settlement manifested multiple conferences that did little to prevent the state of stagnation in Syria. Talk about reaching a political solution is back on the table and has reemerged with the incoming Biden Administration.

As a result of the above developments, on 23 February 2021, the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS) hosted Mr. Nasr Al Hariri in his capacity as the President of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces where he delivered a lecture entitled 'On-the-ground Realities and Political Consequences of the Situation in Syria'. The lecture sought to highlight previous efforts at reaching a political settlement, drawing up lessons for future prospects for peace.

Mr. Nasr Al Hariri's presentation was followed by a discussion moderated by Professor Sultan Barakat, Director of CHS who opened the floor for a question-and-answer session with an audience consisting of the diplomatic community in Qatar, NGO officials and academics participating via zoom.

The lecture was live-streamed our various social media accounts @onlineCHS and is available for replay.
