The Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS) will hold a webinar, titled “The Decline of Humanitarian Principles in Armed Conflicts: An Analytical Perspective from Gaza and Sudan," on October 23, 2025. This event forms part of CHS's ongoing webinar series, The Failure of the International Humanitarian System, which explores the crises challenging the global humanitarian order and the urgent need for reform.

The webinar will feature distinguished keynote speakers including Dr. Omar Mekky, Regional Legal Coordinator for the Near and Middle East at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Dr. Salah Daak, Head of the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) office in Sudan; Ms. Myra Saade, Manager and Senior Legal Adviser at the International Humanitarian Law Centre; and Dr. Fawzi Oussedik, President of the Islamic Forum on International Humanitarian Law and Lecturer of Constitutional Law. Together, they bring diverse perspectives from legal, operational, and academic fields to critically examine the state of humanitarian ethics in protracted conflicts.

The discussion will address the ethical paralysis and erosion of humanitarian principles witnessed during the 2023 Israeli war on Gaza and the ongoing conflict in Sudan, discussing the implications for protection in global humanitarian action. These crises have revealed systematic denials of aid, attacks on humanitarian personnel, and the instrumentalization of relief for political and military purposes. By comparing both contexts, the webinar seeks to unpack the moral and structural collapse of humanitarian action under geopolitical pressures and to explore pathways for restoring integrity, accountability, and the ethical foundations of humanitarian response.
