Biography



President, Doha Graduate Institute, Vice President for Academic Affairs since 2020.

He previously served as dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (2017-2020), and head of the Institute's Political Science and International Relations Program (2015-2017).

He founded the Islam and Democracy Program in 1998 at the Centre for Democracy Studies at the University of Westminster, London, and worked as its coordinator until 2015.

He received his bachelor's degree (hons) in philosophy from the University of Khartoum in 1980, a master's degree in philosophy from the University of Wales (Swansea University College) in 1986, and a PhD in political science from the University of Reading in the Uk in 1989.

He joined the Christian Mikkelsen Institute, Norway (1995, 2003) as a visiting professor/researcher, Northwestern University, Chicago University (2002), Oxford University (1990), Cambridge University (2010-2012), and the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization, Malaysia (2008).  He also lectured at several major universities in five continents, including most major universities in the United States and Britain.

He previously served as a pilot (1976-1980), in addition to working in journalism (1982-1990) and diplomacy (1991-1995) in Britain.​
