The Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS) is establishing an Expert Roster, a select pool of highly qualified professionals who may be mobilized to support CHS's engagements in mediation, peace diplomacy, humanitarian policy, and institutional capacity development.
About CHS
CHS operates at the intersection of research, policy, and practice, with a mandate to support conflict prevention, mediation, and peacebuilding efforts, particularly in the Global South. Headquartered in Doha, Qatar, CHS collaborates with governments, international organizations, and civil society to foster inclusive dialogue, conduct strategic analysis, and develop locally grounded solutions.
Purpose of the Roster
The CHS Expert Roster will enable the organization to respond with agility to complex and evolving needs in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. Experts included in the roster may be invited to contribute to discrete assignments, including field-based deployments, advisory roles, research outputs, mediation support, or high-level policy tasks.
Core Thematic Areas
We are seeking professionals with substantial, demonstrable expertise in one or more of the following domains:
- Mediation and Peace Diplomacy
– International mediation support, dialogue facilitation
– Process design for Track 1.5 and Track 2 initiatives
– Advisory roles in negotiation and ceasefire mechanisms
- Policy Advisory and Strategic Analysis
– Conflict trend analysis, risk forecasting, scenario planning
– Design and evaluation of peace and mediation policies
– Strategic advisories tailored to governmental and multilateral actors
– Applied research on peace and conflict dynamics
– Development of policy briefs, op-eds, and analytical reports
– Translation of field insights into actionable recommendations
– Design and delivery of mediation training modules
– Mentoring local peace actors and institutions
– Institutional diagnostics and capacity-building frameworks
Candidate Profile and Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
– A postgraduate degree (Master's or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, Humanitarian Affairs, Law, or related fields.
– A Ph.D. is highly desirable, particularly for research-focused roles.
– At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in mediation, diplomacy, humanitarian engagement, policy advisory, or peacebuilding.
– Field-based experience in conflict or post-conflict settings is essential.
– Prior engagement with international organizations, UN bodies, or regional diplomatic initiatives is an asset.
– Proven ability to deliver under pressure and in politically sensitive environments.
– Strong command of mediation methodologies, conflict analysis tools, policy development processes, or capacity-building systems depending on area of expertise.
– Familiarity with CHS's geographical and thematic areas of operation.
– Demonstrated credibility in the field, supported by publications, speaking engagements, or formal endorsements.
– Strong intercultural competence, discretion, and the ability to operate diplomatically in complex settings.
– Excellent writing, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
– Fluency in English is required.
– Proficiency in Arabic or French is a strong advantage, particularly for engagements in the MENA, Sahel, or Francophone Africa regions.
Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed through a multi-stage process involving eligibility screening, technical evaluation, and interviews with CHS staff. Successful candidates will be formally included in the roster and eligible for assignment on a rolling basis.
