Indiscriminate Attacks on Civilians as War Tactic in Syria and Ukraine

The Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS) is organizing a symposium on "Indiscriminate Attacks on Civilians as War Tactic in Syria and Ukraine". It aims to discuss the conditions of civilians during armed conflict, particularly following indiscriminate attacks by warring parties, a tactic that constitutes a war crime. Indiscriminate targeting in modern warfare is the primary cause of civilian casualties, mass displacement, and irreversible damage of critical public infrastructures. To that end, this seminar will examine the occurrence of indiscriminate targeting in Syria and Ukraine, shedding light on its humanitarian toll and the prospects that exist for its accountability.

The symposium will take place in Auditorium 2 in the Cultural Foundation, Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, on Wednesday 15 June 2022 at 5:00 p.m. Doha Time (GMT+3).

The event will be livestreamed on social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Simultaneous interpretation into Arabic will be available.
