The Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS) in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland in Doha and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), are hosting a symposium at the Doha Institute entitled "Contemporary Dilemmas in International Humanitarian Law: Exploring Global Issues in the Arab and Islamic World" on Wednesday 15 September, 2021, 1800 Doha Time, followed by an art installation exploring humanitarian principles from Tuesday 21 September to 19 October, 2021, 1800 at the Fire Station Artist in Residence, Doha.

A pre-recorded keynote address will be delivered by H.E. Peter Maurer, President of the ICRC and a panel discussion will follow with contributions from Dr. Helen Durham, Director of International Law and Policy, ICRC, Ms. Fatima Gailani, Afghan Government Negotiator, former President of the Afghan Red Crescent Society and Islamic Scholar, Dr. Ray Jureidini, Professor of Migration, Human Rights and Ethics, Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and Dr. Omar Mekky, Regional Legal Coordinator for Middle East and North Africa, ICRC. Professor Sultan Barakat, Director, CHS, will moderate the panel discussion and the Q&A session.

Topics to be discussed include Challenges of IHL in the Middle East and North Africa, Women and IHL, Islam and IHL, the Protection of Migrants under IHL, and Contemporary Challenges of IHL.
